Honest Disclosure
Hello. I’ve decided to share something that has absolutely nothing to do with growing your business. Is more along the lines of public accountability for me.
You see, since elementary school, I’ve dabbled in fiction writing. Over the years (spanning decades), I’ve taken college extension courses, completed writing programs through various correspondence schools, and participated in self-directed writing courses through the corporations I worked for. I’ve written hundreds of short stories.
Despite all that, I’ve never been moved to actually trying to publish anything fiction-related. Usually, I boxed up the stories and carried them with me from place to place whenever we moved. Eventually, when I got tired of lugging stuff around, I sent the materials to the landfill. In other cases, stories were lost due to unrecoverable hardware failures, though it only hurt for a moment. Ok. Maybe much longer than just a moment.
Still, writing fiction began at a very early age as a personal form of release for me, an escape from reality—a way to express my frustrations and views on the things going on in life that people, myself included, had to deal with. What began as a cry for help as a child grew into something more over the years. But I never intended to publish any of the stories I had written.
Lately, though, there’s this story idea that’s been gnawing at me. A story I feel is too big to keep to myself. So I figured it’s time to actually start writing it. I’ve outlined all the chapters and the plot, and now it’s down to finishing the details. There’s a much bigger story here than shown in the excerpt, but for now, I’m just taking it one step at a time.
Who knows—maybe I’ll finish the story, maybe I won’t—but at least I’m putting this out there as a form of public accountability.
UPDATE: At over 33,101 words, Verdant: The Last Rebirth novella is completed. Kalia’s journey of triumphs and trials is fully told. I want to sit on this for a week or two before I hand it off to an editor in case a spark of post-finalized inspiration hits me before going to print. Otherwise, “Verdant” is ready for the world! Now, all I need is a film adaptation with plenty of royalties, and I’ll be set for life! I’ve even written a cameo-perfect scene just for myself and a completed rough draft screenplay from the book. So, if you’re a filmmaker, feel free to make my day—just saying, no pressure!
